Prayer gives us strength when we feel week and prayer keeps us humble when we overly self important. Prayer is an important part of our lives, and we model our behaviour on Jesus and others in the Bible who prayed frequently and with power.

Below are some prayers and prayer topics that you might like to pray yourself.

The Lord’s Prayer

Matthew 6:9-13 (NLT)

Pray like this:
Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy.
May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
Give us today the food we need,
and forgive us our sins,
as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
And don’t let us yield to temptation,
but rescue us from the evil one.

Sinner’s Prayer

from Billy Graham

Dear Lord Jesus,
I know that I am a sinner,
and I ask for Your forgiveness.
I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead.
I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life.
I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior.
In Your Name.
Amen.

Paul’s Prayer for Spiritual Wisdom

Ephesians 1:15-23 (NLT)

Ever since I first heard of your strong faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for God’s people everywhere, I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come. God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.

A Salvation Prayer

(The basis of the salvation prayer is found in Romans 10:9-10, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.”)

God, I know that, in my lifetime,
I have not always lived for you,
and I have sinned in ways I probably don’t even know yet are sins.
I know that you have plans for me, and I want to live in those plans.
I pray to you for forgiveness for the ways in which I have sinned.
I am choosing now to accept Jesus into my heart.
I am eternally grateful for his sacrifice on the cross and how He died so I can have eternal life.
I pray that I be filled with the Holy Spirit and that I continue to live as You desire for me to live.
I will strive to overcome temptations and no longer let sin control me.
I put myself in your hands.
I pray that you work in my life and guide my steps so that I continue to live for you.
In your name I pray.
Amen.
